Mississippi’s sports betting earnings saw a significant rise in September, increasing by 17.9% compared to the same period last year. The state also witnessed a surge in bets placed during the month.
Mississippi’s sports betting income continued its upward trend in September, reaching a new peak.
September’s earnings amounted to $6.6 million (£5.1 million/€5.6 million), representing a 17.9% increase from $5.6 million in September 2019 and a 78.4% jump from $3.7 million in August.
Gamblers placed a total of $52.2 million on sporting events in September, marking a 37.7% increase from the previous year and a 28.9% rise from $40.5 million in August.
Similar to other states across the US, Mississippi’s growth was driven by the return of major leagues, including the NFL, which began its 2020 season in early September.
Coastal casinos remained the primary source of sports betting revenue in September, with these venues generating $3.8 million, surpassing the state’s total revenue for the same month in 2019.
