The Green Mountain State will initiate online mobile sports wagering on January 11, 2024.
Vermont’s Governor Phil Scott and the Liquor and Lottery Commissioner, Wendy Knight, declared that legal online sports betting will commence in Vermont on January 11, 2024.
Vermont will initiate online mobile sports wagering on January 11, 2024.
Starting on that date, Vermont bettors will be able to download applications from authorized operators and place legal wagers online. Consumers will soon be able to register in advance with operators before the January launch.
Scott signed House Bill 127 in June, which enabled this launch. The legislation permits Vermont to have up to six online sports betting businesses.
Through a competitive bidding process, the Vermont Liquor and Lottery Department chose DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics Sportsbook to operate mobile sports betting platforms in the state.
Operators will pay a 20% tax rate on adjusted gross sports betting revenue. Betting is anticipated to generate an additional $7 million in revenue for Vermont in the first year of legalization.
The legislation also provides more resources to enhance responsible gambling services in Vermont. Bettors must be 21 years or older to place legal wagers.
Scott, a long-standing advocate for legal sports betting, welcomed the launch date.
I proposed legalizing sports wagering in Vermont a while back,” he stated. “It’s fantastic to witness it come to fruition.”
“Shortly, Vermont inhabitants and guests will have the opportunity to place bets on sporting events within a controlled environment, safeguarding consumers and generating revenue for the state.”
Commissioner Knight further remarked, “We’re delighted to collaborate with three of the leading enterprises in this sector to provide sports enthusiasts in Vermont the chance to wager on their favorite teams.”
