Cian Nugent, representing the Racing Post, a subsidiary of Spotlight Sports Group, has assumed the mantle of Chair for the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC). He succeeds Clive Hawkswood, who has held the position since the organization’s inception in 2019.

Nugent conveyed his eagerness, remarking, “I am thrilled to advocate for our sector during this period of substantial transformation in betting and gaming policy and oversight.” He underscored the group’s dedication to education, representation, and constructive engagement with governmental and political stakeholders. Nugent emphasized the BGC’s vital function in guaranteeing a beneficial and ethical experience for patrons, aspiring for this to be acknowledged in any forthcoming industry regulations.

Hawkswood, who had previously apprised the Board of his desire to relinquish the role, urged the industry and the BGC to welcome the UK’s gambling law assessment. He elaborated on his choice, stating that with the approaching government evaluation, he wouldn’t possess the capacity to commit to the position given his other obligations. He expressed appreciation for the backing he received throughout his term and highlighted the BGC’s proactive strategizing for the coming year and the imminent review.
